Attractions of Bandhavgarh

Bandhavgarh Fort

To reach this fort, you have to hike for around an hour. The hike will begin in the Tala zone of this scenic park. This fort is settled on a hill in the middle of Bandhavgarh National Park and it is around 807 meters above sea level. This one is the oldest fort in India and it unfolds the legendary story of Ram and Lakshman from Ramayana. It is said that this fort was gifted by Lord Rama to his younger brother Lakshmana. Moreover, the name of the fort means ‘Brother Fort’ because ‘Bandhav’ in English means brother, and ‘Garh’ means fort.

Sheesh Shaiya

This is another point of attraction inside the fort and it’s a 65-foot-tall statue of Lord Vishnu. This statue depicts the sleeping posture of Lord Vishnu on the Shesh Naag or seven-hooded serpent in a green pool. Other than the statue of Lord Vishnu, statues depicting Brahma and Shiva (Shivling) are also here, completing the Holy Trinity. The lifeline of this park, the Charanganga River originates and flows through the feet, and charan of Lord Vishnu. If you come here during the winter then you can spot many birds near the green pool.

Bari Gupha

Bari Gupha means big cave, and it is the biggest man-made cave in the Park dating back to the 10th century A.D. You can explore these beautiful caves that are carved out of the mountains. Once upon a time, the Maharaja of this place used to live in this fort, at that time these caves were used as barracks for the warriors of the palace. If you want to explore these caves, then taking a permit from the forest authorities is necessary. One can explore a variety of bats here.

Three Cave Point

Baghel Museum

Those things belong to the Maharaja and they clearly showcase his legacy. People can also see the stuffed body of Mohan, which was the first white tiger spotted by Maharaja.
